Daily Bread for 1-26-10

Philippians 4:6-7 – Don’t worry about anything, instead, pray about everything.  Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all He has done.  If you do this, you will experience God’s peace, which is far more wonderful than the human mind can understand.  His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4.  I wish you could see what this chapter looks like in my bible.  Half of it underlined, words circled, notes in the margin.  4:6 is a staple verse for me, one I’ve quoted many times.  One I have to remind myself of a lot.

Worth noting…in verse six, is the word “instead.” Paul is implying that we take an alternate action.  When you start to worry, stop what you’re doing.  Make a conscious choice to pray instead.

Worry becomes a habit very easily.  And anyone trying to break a habit will tell you how important it is to have another action to replace that which you are trying to stop.  Smokers chew nicorette.  As someone who’s had to stop drinking, I can tell you it’s much easier at parties when I have something in my hand…diet coke, sprite, whatever.  The next time you catch yourself worrying, stop and pray instead.  Before you know it, you’ve formed a new habit…that will bless you tremendously!

Isaiah 63:17 – Lord, why have You allowed us to turn from Your path?  Why have You given us stubborn heart so we no longer fear You?  Return and help us, for we are Your servants and Your special possession.

How I love that verse.  God knows my tendency to wander off the path.  He’s never shocked at my stubborn heart.  How comforting to know that David, the great psalmist, had the same struggles.  But when we come to Him with a repentant heart, He is quick to welcome us back, and even to help us with obedience.  The thought that I am His special possession humbles me to my core.

Pray today that God would change you from the inside out.  That He would make His will and your will one and the same.  Then pray that He would guide your steps.  Thank Him that you are His special possession.  Let that truth effect everything you do and say today.

Psalm 25:4-5 – Show me the path where I should walk, O LORD; point out the right road for me to follow.  Lead me by your truth and teach me, for You are the God who saves me.  All day long I put my hope in You.

Friends, these days, this is my daily prayer.  That God would show me the path where I should walk.  That He would boldly point out the right road for me to follow!  Don’t leave it to my guess-work, God, don’t trust me that much!  Reach your arm down from the heavens and point out the right road for me to follow.  I read Your Word, so that You will lead me by Your truth and teach me.  All day long I put my hope in the Lord.

There is so much uncertainty in the world today.  So many decisions to make.  I love this scripture, it makes me feel like I’m leaving nothing to chance!  I pray earnestly that God would point out the right road for you to follow today.  That you would be led by His truth, and that You would put your hope in Him all day long!  God bless you!
